Terms of Service for Kanji Yomi Search

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Kanji Yomi Search mobile application (the "App"), provided by Amun Studios LLC ("Amun Studios," "we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Description of Service

Kanji Yomi Search lets you look up the reading (yomi) of a kanji character by capturing a photo with your camera or drawing the character on screen. Searches are processed using Google's Gemini API.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.

3. License to Use the App

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

4. Free Tier, Limits, and Advertising

  • Drawing search is free and unlimited for all users.

  • Camera search (free tier) is limited to 5 free scans per day. You may unlock 5 additional scans per day by watching a rewarded video advertisement.

  • Scan limits, ad-unlock amounts, and features may change at any time without prior notice.

  • The free tier displays third-party advertising (via Google AdMob). We are not responsible for the content of third-party ads.

5. Kanji Yomi Search Pro (Subscription)

We offer an optional auto-renewing subscription, Kanji Yomi Search Pro, priced at $2.99 per year (price may vary by region/currency and is shown at checkout). Pro removes the daily camera scan limit and disables in-app advertising.

  • Billing and auto-renewal: Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews for the same 1-year term and price unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

  • Managing or canceling: You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store (Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions) or Google Play (Play Store app > Profile > Payments & subscriptions) account settings. Canceling stops future renewals; you'll keep Pro access through the end of the period you already paid for.

  • Refunds: All purchases are billed and processed by Apple or Google. Refund requests are handled according to Apple's or Google Play's refund policies, not directly by us.

  • Price changes: If we change the subscription price, we will provide notice as required by the applicable app store, and any change will apply only to renewals after you've been notified.

  • No partial refunds for unused time: Except as required by law or app store policy, downgrading from Pro or canceling mid-term does not entitle you to a prorated refund.

6. Your Content

When you submit a photo or drawing for kanji lookup, you grant us a limited license to transmit that content to our AI processing provider (Google Gemini API) solely to return a result to you. We do not claim ownership of your photos or drawings, and as described in our Privacy Policy, we do not retain them after processing.

You agree not to submit content that is illegal, infringing, or that you do not have the right to share.

7. AI Accuracy Disclaimer

Kanji readings are generated by third-party AI (Google Gemini) and may occasionally be incorrect, incomplete, or fail to recognize a character. The App is provided as a convenience tool and should not be relied upon as the sole source for academic, professional, or safety-critical translation needs.

8. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent the App's scan limits, subscription checks, or security features

  • Use automated means (bots, scripts) to access the App or its underlying AI service in a way that violates Google's Gemini API or AdMob terms

  • Interfere with or disrupt the App's operation or servers

9. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, branding, and code (excluding third-party components and your own submitted content), is the property of Amun Studios LLC and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the App except as permitted by these Terms.

10. Third-Party Services

The App integrates third-party services (Google Gemini API, Google AdMob, and Apple/Google billing platforms), each subject to its own terms:

Your use of features relying on these services is also subject to those third-party terms.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT KANJI READINGS WILL BE ACCURATE.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AMUN STUDIOS LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE CLAIM (WHICH, FOR FREE-TIER USE, IS ZERO).

13. Termination

We may suspend or discontinue the App, or your access to it, at any time, with or without notice, including for violation of these Terms. Suspension or termination for cause does not entitle you to a refund of any active subscription period.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent applicable to your use of the App.
